Hoe Street, London

Former Grade II Listed cinema (and at the end of its life a bingo hall) had lain derelict for several years until our client purchased the property to be used for broadcast televised events, whilst opening it up to the local community as a place of worship.

Being a Grade II Listed building, careful and tasteful design solutions had to be utilised ie remoulding and replacing many of the original features, as well as introduce new modern 21st century innovations eg: extending the balcony using modern, but contrasting materials, and adding an extension to the rear to accommodate offices and house a lift for disabled access into the building in order to make it DDA compliant.

Being a major community building in the area, once completed it was welcomed by the community and especially unveiled to the wider public for tours and visits over 2 years at the RIBA’s Open House week programme.
